On September 4, 2024, Sean Van Dorn, Jr. announced his commitment to Georgia Southern University where he will play for Head Coach Charlie Henry. Van Dorn, Jr. is a 6’6” Small Forward from Fayetteville, Georgia. After playing two years for Fayette County HS, he spent his junior season at Rock Creek Christian in Maryland and he will suit up for Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia for his senior season. As a junior at Rock Creek Christian, he played in 10 games where he averaged 15.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 0.3 APG according to MaxPreps.
He is more than capable of scoring around the rim, from mid-range, and shoots it well from deep. In watching some film, it just seems like he is always in a good position when it comes to rebounding. He is a solid athlete, above average defender, and is capable of blocking shots. He has solid court vision and basketball IQ and in the college game where there are plenty of capable scorers, expect those assist numbers to increase.
The early signing period for college basketball runs from November 13-20, 2024 with the regular signing period running from April 16, 2025-May 21, 2025. After a strong finish to the 2023-2024 basketball season, Coach Henry and his staff look to build on that and continue rebuilding a program that just has not found their groove since losing Coach Mark Byington to take over the program at James Madison University back in 2020.
