Eagles Land Two 2025 Commits Over The Weekend

Just before kickoff on Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Eagles gained commitments from two Class of 2025 recruits.

2025 LB Colton Veltkamp announced his commitment to Georgia Southern via X (formerly Twitter) at 12:41 PM on Saturday. Veltkamp is the son of the Director of Strength and Conditioning (Jason Veltkamp) and brother of the starting quarterback (Caden Veltkamp) at Western Kentucky where Coach Clay Helton’s brother, Tyson, is the Head Coach. Colton is 6’1”, 210 pounds and plays linebacker and tight end for South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky. According to MaxPreps, Colton has 40 tackles including 7 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss to go along with 28 catches for 402 yards and 8 touchdowns through eight games this season. Colton is a great athlete and plays power forward for the basketball team at South Warren as well. According to his Hudl profile, Colton runs a 4.7 second 40-yard dash, benches 275 pounds, power cleans 265 pounds, and has a 31 inch vertical. Once he gets into the program, he will likely gain 20-30 pounds and should provide special teams help early on before transitioning into the defensive rotation.

2025 LB Caleb Butler announced his commitment to Georgia Southern via X (formerly Twitter) at 1:04 PM on Saturday. Caleb is a 6’2”, 220 pound middle linebacker from just down the road in Brunswick, Georgia. He currently play basketball and football for Brunswick High School. According to MaxPreps, through seven games this season, he has 58 tackles including 5 tackles for loss as well as an interception. On the basketball court, Caleb plays Shooting Guard and averaged 13.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.4 SPG, and 1.1 APG as a junior last season. Caleb is a physical player who fills running lanes well and does not shy away from contact when taking on blockers or making tackles. From his linebacker position, he naturally reads plays well and gets to the ball in a hurry to make plays for the defense. In pass coverage, he moves well and has fluid hips to stay in good position. Butler has the frame to put on another 10-15 pounds without losing any speed and should figure into the linebacker rotation quickly.

Veltkamp and Butler are the 12th and 13th commits of the Class of 2025. A full list of current commits can be found here.
